The promise of God to secure His people in a land flowing with milk and honey, has not truly been fulfilled. It has been fulfilled in type, represented by the trek of the Hebrew Nation within the Sinai peninsula, culminating in the crossing of the Jordan, but the ultimate fulfillment of this promise will not be realized until the Second Coming of Christ. Heaven is the Promised Land.
Here are a few things that illuminate this principle, using the Hebrew Nation and God's merciful love as a pattern of the finale.
- The deliverance of the Nation of Israel from Egypt represented Christ's Plan of salvation, to which they looked forward in faith.
- They did not go straight into the Promised Land, but rather, entered the Wilderness of Sin, representing the trials that would befall the followers of Christ, until they actually "Enter" the Promised Land .
- The Pharoah, representing Satan, chased after them all the way to the Red Sea He was defeated, just like Satan was defeated at the Cross of Calvary.
- Even after crossing the Jordan River River, there were still many years of trial, further representing the fact that, even after deliverance, faith is still necessary. During this time, there were many that turned their back on God and mistreated God's prophets and messengers.
- In the Sinai Desert, there was a falling away from God, representing the "falling away," Paul spoke of in 2Thessalonians, Chater 2.
- Before Crossing the Jordan, twelve men (spies) were sent forth to survey the Land of Promise.
- The majority returned with reports of doubt Only two returned with assurance of victory, Just as the.
